Syba Silent Giant SYNBK 68003
The first thing that strikes me about this Syba SY-NBK68003 Silent Giant 7-Inch Fan Laptop / Notebook Cooling Pad, (what a mouthful!), is its huge fan. In an electronics market full of laptop cooler pads many of which have two little fans placed at either side of their unit, Syba decided to go another route.
Taking the road less traveled has paid off. They designed their cooling pad with a fan that takes up over three quarters of the surface of the unit. That means no matter where the “hot spot” is on your laptop this fan will be under it. A large fan surface means a wider area of ventilation. A wider area of ventilation means a cooler laptop.
Now, because of the size of this fan, (7 inches), you would think that this unit makes enough noise to shake you off your office chair. Fortunately, you would be very wrong. This unit is dead quiet! The fan runs at 20-24db which is less noise than most computer CPU fans. This is a massive bonus if you work in places that require silence such as a library or in class.
I have to say that for the tiny price tag this Syba SY-NBK68003 Fan Cooling Pad is a bargain. I mean, for just over ten bucks you get a unit that maybe isn’t perfect but does exactly what it is supposed to and does it well too!
Another added feature to the fan system is speed. The fan speed is usually around 750 RPM but will adjust automatically depending on the temperature of the laptop. So, once the cooler pad has helped drop the temperature of the laptop its fan drops down in speed a little to maintain the cooling.
So we can now see that having a huge fan at the centre of a cooling system can do wonders but as with all good things perfection is still a distance away. What I am talking about is how the underside of the unit is left open. This means that you must be careful where you place the pad while the fan is on. I don’t know why Syba decided to leave the underneath open. To anyone that uses their lap as a base, this will be seen as a major flaw in the unit.
With the fan exposed the bottom is open, so if you set it directly on your lap or other soft surface, the fan will press against your leg instead of spinning. You must use a hard surface, even if it just a large book or piece of cardboard.
This is not a cooler pad for those of you who work off your lap or on the couch etc. This is strictly a solid surface work station. I would say this has something to do with the low price but to tell you the truth I would pay an extra ten bucks for this laptop cooler pad if it had an enclosed fan.
If you are not very techno minded then no need to worry as this is a simple plug ‘n’ play unit that doesn’t require any set up software or drivers; all you need is a free USB port. There is no on/off switch, although unplugging a USB from a laptop is not the most difficult of things to do.
Another interesting feature that the Syba SY-NBK68003 has is a set of quite attractive blue LED lights. This will give a slight ambient lighting effect that will come in handy if you are in a dark place. The blue light can also be used as a reminder to unplug the unit when you put the computer to sleep.
One other thing you need to know is that this cooling stand is set at a particular height and cannot be adjusted. Actually the height will not need adjusting for most of us as it is set just right. The rear legs are a little higher which gives it a nice slope so this shouldn’t be an issue.
Overall the Syba SY-NBK68003 Silent Giant 7-Inch Fan Laptop / Notebook Cooling Pad, (another mouthful!), is a very good cooling system considering the price range. It will work well regardless of how often or not you use your laptop and really at the end of the day that is the main reason for buying a laptop cooling stand, right? It is quiet, efficient and not bad looking with a very low price tag.

I have a Dell D620 laptop and it runs hot when it’s been on for a while. I wanted a laptop cooler and I would have bought one of the $60 types. I read the reviews of this one though and decided to give it a try. I mostly use my laptop on my desk or on a table. I understood before I bought it that I couldn’t use it on my lap. It’s silent and works great. If there was one thing I would change about this Notebook Cooler, it would involve the height. It’s about an inch high in the front. Overall, I’m SUPER happy with this purchase and recommend it for others.
I can only talk about my own experience, but this product fits me and my laptop to a T! With the summer being so hot, my laptop started shutting down when it overheated. I just got it yesterday, and it is working perfectly. I have a larger laptop, and all I do is position it in the area where it is needed, and it cools the sucker down. I have no problems using the keyboard, so it’s all good in my little universe!
I don’t care that the blades are open in the bottom because I always use my laptop on a hard surface. And who doesn’t like the cool blue lights?
